PHYSICAL DIAGNOSIS – MEDICAL SCREENING: PT 207 (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) This course will cover the basic requisites for history taking, physical examination and diagnosis. PHYS THER 4.5 qtr units UCSF
DOCTORAL COLLOQUIA: PT 208 (Fall) This course will be taken each quarter the DTP student is enrolled in the program and will cover important topics relative to professional practice and current practice issues. PHYS THER 1.5 qtr units UCSF
EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE: PT 209 (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) This course will be taken each quarter the DPT student is enrolled in the program. The student will learn the principles of evidence, based practice, requiring each student to critique current literature and physical therapy relevant journals with an expectation to enter articles into a PT database. UCSF MUSCLE AND NERVE: PT 212 (Fall) This course will cover the basic biology of muscle and never including the effects of exercise, modalities, drugs and manual techniques on repair and regeneration. PHYS THER 3 qtr units UCSF
MOVEMENT SCIENCE: PT 213 (Fall, Winter, Spring) This course will cover broad topics on the biomechanics of movement and motor control in normal and pathological conditions. PHYS THER 3 qtr units UCSF
GRAND ROUNDS: PT 400 (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) This course will be taken each quarter the DPT student is enrolled in the program. The student will attend and participate in weekly grand rounds or seminars in an area appropriate to their specialization but outside physical therapy (e.g. neurology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, medicine, neuroscience, cancer, pain). The student may choose to orally present their final exam case study in Grand Rounds. PHYS THER 3 qtr units UCSF
CLINICAL RESEARCH CLERKSHIP: PT 419 (Fall, Winter, Spring) This course will provide supervised time for the students to complete a clinical research project. This could be one started in the MS program, a new question, or data analysis and preparation of a manuscript. PHYS THER 9 qtr units UCSF
ADVANCED PT CARE CLERKSHIP: PT 419 (Fall, Winter, Spring) This course will require the students to see patients in a community patient care setting where experienced clinicians will provide mentoring for advanced specialty or autonomous primary care practice. PHYS THER 9 qtr units UCSF
PROFESSIONAL COLLOQUIUM: PT 908 (Spring) Topics relative to evidence based PT practice: ethics, human subjects, research, authorship, scientific writing; and to professional issues: legislation, direct access to PT services, and reimbursement for services. PHYS THER 1 sem units SFSU
EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE: PT 910 (Spring)Review of the principles of evidence based practice; critique of current articles on a PT clinical practice question; enter review into an established physical therapy database. PHYS THER 4 sem units SFSU
CASE STUDIES: PT 920 (Spring) This course will be taken each quarter the DPT student is enrolled in the program. Each student will be responsible for presenting a unique case study that includes a review of the literature on diagnosis and treatment of the case. PHYS THER 5 sem units SFSU
MENTORED CLINICAL CLERKSHIP: PT 930 (Spring) In a clinical setting, students treat patients and work with experienced clinicians who provide mentoring and consultation for case reviews, physical therapy techniques, and review of specialty. PHYS THER 6 sem units SFSU
