Post Professional DPT Program
(Experienced and Licensed Clinicians)

Practicing physical therapy clinicians who are seeking a doctoral degree in physical therapy can apply to one of two programs:

  • Post Professional DPT Program to expand clinical reasoning skills and evidence based practice
  • DPTSc to develop a foundation for teaching and clinical research

The DPT program is nine months of academic study built on a foundation of a masters degree in physical therapy (51 quarter units). To be eligible for the DPT, the experienced clinician needs to be:

  • Current in the practice of physical therapy
  • Have completed the Graduate Record Examination within the last 7 years, and
  • Have a master's degree earned within the last 5 years

The content area of study extends learning in the area of muscle and nerve biology, biomechanics and motor control. It also enhances critical thinking and facilitates the development of the skills required to build the evidence base of practice. The student learns how to prepare a publication-ready case report and participates in a research project.
